  • April 4, 2026: Taking Form

Prompt: Describe a version of yourself that is just starting to take form.

    Phew.

Perhaps it isn’t so much about a version of myself that is starting to take form more than it is about me coalescing, finalizing, or securing the seemingly disparate parts of who I am. If anything, the “more complete” version of myself may be starting to take form.

  • April 1, 2026: Making Space

Prompt: What part of you has been quietly asking for more space?

Lately, there’s been a ripening desire within me to write more seriously. This blog is part of that larger goal, but I want to have a more focussed and targeted approach to my writing. I want to work on something less ad-hoc, something more seasoned.

For this, I will need to make the time and find the space.

  • Day 31 – Integration

Today’s prompt: What themes, lessons, or beginnings from this month are staying with you?

I want to continue with the daily writing prompts on Letters’ Lounge. It only occurred to me late in the evening today that tomorrow is February and that I hadn’t scheduled any writing prompts. I managed to get a few ready to go and will finish the rest over the next few days.

  • Day 15 – Trust

Today’s prompt: Where is trust asking to be rebuilt, extended, or reclaimed in your life?

Every now and again, the idea of writing a book pops into my head. The impetus for these latest string of daily posts is that very prospect. Trouble is, I don’t know what I’d write about, despite having a few ideas, because I don’t know that what I want to tell warrants the effort.

  • Day 7 – Roots

Today’s Prompt: What roots you — right now, in this season?

I would have to say that writing grounds me, providing me with a familiar place to take off from and land on. While is remains a firmly rooted component of my life, it operates more akin to lichen, spreading out through the various aspects of my life.

I’d hardly consider myself a writer, although there was a time when it was an aspiration of mine, preferring, instead, to remain someone who writes. I do hope that one day, like seeds into trees, my words will make their way into a book.

Today’s prompt can be found at Letters’ Lounge.

  • December 31, 2025

It would be nice to have some grand project in mind for 2026, even just a 365 project. All that really comes to mind, what feels most reasonable, is working at reducing the amount I keep on my plate.

I recently applied to Google AdSense for this website. I had it running on Bernard Walter, making maybe a total of three dollars over the course of half-a-dozen years. It was something, I suppose. My application was rejected due to “low quality content.”

    On pens and morning pages

Over a year ago, I decided that I should work through the pens and notebooks that I have laying around. I had a bunch of inexpensive Hilroy notebooks, the ones you’d buy for back to school in junior high school. There were Bic pens, a few rollerballs, and a Parker Jotter in my desk drawer. Slowly, I’ve been using them up.

When we were growing up, my dad had a section of the basement cordoned off with a brown curtain. My sister and I were not allowed there. Nothing nefarious was taking place – my dad used to have a side-hustle repairing electronics.

I’ve been aware that I’ve been having dreams lately, not like Martin Luther King, but while I’m sleeping, and I don’t like it. I can’t remember most of them, which is frustrating in itself, but I woke up pissed off about something that happened in my dream, and I can’t remember what it was.

    August 8, 2023

I must’ve gone on for at least half an hour, if not 45-minutes, while we were driving back from PEI, about whether I should post links to my blog posts on my Instagram Stories. It’s been on my mind for about a week. Every time I ran through an argument, I ended up at the same conclusion: I don’t know.

Creativity is a funny thing. We seem to value it very highly in our private lives but dismiss it too easily in our professional ones.
