Emi had a bad night’s sleep last night, which means that we had a bad night’s sleep, too. Recovering from that is not easy. Maintaining your own rhythm and fluidity is difficult. I couldn’t tell you where the weekend went.

Day 1 – Showing Up
WordPress used to host Bloganuary, where they’d post writing prompts for the month of January. I participated in it for two or three years. It seems, however, that they’ve stopped doing that, leading me to my next idea: using Letters’ Lounge as a platform to find writing prompts and share their responses.

December 26, 2025
Emi has been in this world with us for a month. Unbelievable. It’s hard to recall all that has happened since the day she was born, not least because of the lack of consistent and rejuvenating sleep.

One thing I often catch myself doing that I absolutely hate is checking my phone when I’m holding Emi. The most beautiful person in my world is resting in my arms and I’m reaching for my phone so I can watch stupid, short videos about whatever the algorithm says I’m interested in. Finally, at around three in the morning, I drove us to the hospital. We were admitted and then moved from triage to the labour and delivery ward around eight.

Waiting for Her, and Wondering How to Capture it All
I got my flu and COVID vaccines on Friday night, hoping to protect myself and my family. I spent all of yesterday sick in bed, alternating between hot and cold, sweating and freezing. Thankfully, our daughter is arriving later than scheduled.

She’ll be here soon
Tomorrow has been a deadline for some many things. Get the wall unit and bookshelf built. Check. Get the pen orders done. Half-check. Prepare your plans for school. Check. Get your vaccines for the year. Check. I’ve been chasing checkmarks.

Two Days to Go
I’m expecting the baby to be late. Apparently, the first ones always are. I was two days late. I’m still regularly late. But, I can’t live my life on what might be. Instead, I have to work with what I know.
