One of the most wholistic and endearing things I have ever been witness to is watching my dad feed Emi.
Emi has been in this world with us for a month. Unbelievable. It’s hard to recall all that has happened since the day she was born, not least because of the lack of consistent and rejuvenating sleep.
(more…)We likely overdid it with Emi today. First, my parents came by in the morning to say goodbye before they left, then we went to the first family gathering, and we followed that up with a second family gathering. It was a busy day for her, and for us.
(more…)My parents have come to visit. Well, to spend time with Emi. It is one of the most heartwarming things I have ever witnessed to see my parents hold her. Of course, I have no idea what they looked like when they first held me or my sister, but watching them hold their first grandchild fills me with a calming joy.
We took Emi on her first outing today. We went to the local café and stayed there while we had a coffee and small snack. She slept through the entire thing, in her bassinet, from when we left right until we got back.

A week ago today, I was helpless as Hannah endured the pain that signalled the beginning of her labour. For hours, we were in disbelief, all of the advice we had received hadn’t accounted for any of what we – she – was going through. “You’ll know,” they all said. We certainly didn’t. Finally, at around three in the morning, I drove us to the hospital. We were admitted and then moved from triage to the labour and delivery ward around eight.
(more…)I got my flu and COVID vaccines on Friday night, hoping to protect myself and my family. I spent all of yesterday sick in bed, alternating between hot and cold, sweating and freezing. Thankfully, our daughter is arriving later than scheduled.
(more…)Tomorrow has been a deadline for some many things. Get the wall unit and bookshelf built. Check. Get the pen orders done. Half-check. Prepare your plans for school. Check. Get your vaccines for the year. Check. I’ve been chasing checkmarks.
(more…)I can still picture the blankets my mom crocheted when she was pregnant. One is blue and white; the other, lime green. I’d never given them much thought before, but they’re beloved, understated treasures. They’re always around at my parents’ house, a comforting part of the home. Of course, I want my daughter to have the same.
(more…)We’re down to one poäng chair in the living room. It was in our bedroom, after being in the room that is now the nursery. I bought it several years ago, when I was still living on my own, but haven’t really spent much time sitting in it. Genevieve kind of capitalized it.
(more…)Part of me wants to be one of those “Internet Dads.” You know? The guys who post about what fatherhood is like. They share tips and anecdotes, alongside cute, funny clips of their kids doing things. They themselves have some charm and a little charisma, and it doesn’t hurt if they’re a little good looking. At least a seven, I would say. Six if they’re suave.
