There are many great reasons to love language. One is when you discover a word or phrase that captures the sentiment you are currently feeling.

I’ve been struggling with this question for at least three months, and now I’m turning to you, dear reader, for advice. It’s not that I haven’t asked my sister and some friends, but they’ve grown tired of entertaining the question, given my consistent indecision. (more…)
During the last week, I have been looking for apartments in Toronto. It’s never fun looking for apartments, especially in Toronto. The pictures on the websites often don’t match the actual state of the unit, and the listed prices are, at best, relatively close but still less than what you’re actually going to pay each month. It’s now 2:20 am, and I’ve been awake thinking about the date that I have tomorrow at noon. I’ve been passing the time by chatting with friends over pints of beer, and reading a book by my high school sweetheart, who is now married, with child, and happier than I could ever have made her.

Years ago, I wrote a post about using my then-new iPad. I tried to find the post in the archive of the many online-catacombs that I’ve dug and filled, but I can’t find it. The post had something to do with the contention between the digital and analog worlds that we navigate. I must have written that post over five years ago, and the debate on ebooks vs. “real”-books was going strong.

It was so hot in the car. I’m sweating a little.”
Riel has been in my life for just over four years, and we’ve developed a bond. Before I had Riel, I didn’t understand what it meant to have a pet that you really care for. I thought that pets were simply subjects in a one-sided relationship.
Last night, while trying to fall asleep in the wee hours of the morning, it dawned on me, how much I care for this little creature. He’s my buddy. (more…)

Folks, be sure to give this a listen before it’s gone.

I tend to fumble my way through life. I’m convinced that the only reason that I’m where I’m at today, without having suffered amazing failure, is good luck. You see, for a man who lives mostly in his head, the world is a treacherous place. (more…)

I really should be doing homework, but what I really want to do is write a letter to somebody and tell them what I’m thinking about. I want to sit down in a pub, with my laptop, and write a letter. Well, I guess I’d be writing an email. (more…)
