I want to build a successful business. It’s one of those things that I really want but am not working toward effectively. Two or three years ago, I felt as though I was making progress. In the last year or so, I’ve felt stagnant. The progress I was making was slow going but it was going. Lately, not so much.

I haven’t been keeping up with posting!
I started working on this wagon today. I need to get some hardware to fit the wheels on. Then, sanding, finishing, reassembly, and ride.

April 29, 2025
The days have been whizzing by. All of a sudden, it’s time to crawl into bed, quickly followed by the option to snooze. I want so much more to happen during my waking hours. I have ideas.

Christmas Ornament | Woodturning | Redheart Wood
In today’s video, I turn a Christmas ornament with Redheart wood. This was a quick, fun project. Nothing too exciting but something a little special – it feels good to make things to celebrate with.
Thank you all, so much, for your support throughout 2023. It was a great year and I’m hopeful 2024 will be even better. I wish you all the very best for the holiday season and the upcoming year.
Keep well.

Pen Turning | European Round Top with Palo Santo Rosewood and Chrome Hardware
In today’s pen turning video, I turn a European Round Top pen using Palo Santo Rosewood and chrome hardware. I like turning this wood. I love how nicely it turns and how it finishes. The best part has to be how the wood will change over the next couple of weeks, lightening up and exposing green veins. Turning the tenon for this pen kit is a bit annoying but I think that the effort is rewarded with the result.

Pen Turning | Jim Beam Whisky Barrel Oak Algonquin Rollerball with Satin Chrome Hardware
In this week’s pen turning video, I turn an Algonquin rollerball pen using Oak from a Jim Beam whisky barrel and with satin chrome hardware. I enjoyed turning this pen. For a while, I was mulling over how to shape it but things came together nicely as soon as I put the blanks on the lathe. I used Yorkshire Grit fine and microfine after sanding to 600 grit. The finish is Doctor’s Woodshop Pens Plus, a friction polish. I quite like how this pen turned out. This pen is one of a dozen for a project I’m working on for a buddy of mine – he’ll have these available through his clothing store.

Pen Turning | Purple Poly Resin and Gaboon Ebony with Gold Hardware Baron Fountain Pen
In today’s video, I turn a Baron fountain pen. Initially, I was working on a RAW brass pen with Black Palm wood but that didn’t work so I switched gears. I tried a new process for finishing this pen, using Yorkshire Grit fine and microfine abrasive pastes. In the end, I’m not too excited about this one, but that’s probably just a me thing.

Pen(cil) Turning | Brown Mallee Burl Cigar Pencil with Chrome Hardware
In today’s video, I turn a Cigar pencil using Brown Mallee Burl wood and chrome hardware. This was a trickier one to turn. I found that the carbide chisels kept snagging. A couple of times, I stopped to fill some voids with CA. At the end, after it all came together, the click mechanism wasn’t working. After fiddling with it for a while, I figured out that the push rod(?) was slightly too short – I forgot to photograph the solution. Overall, however, I think this one turned out great. I love how this wood finishes, with the grain pattern becoming so prominent.

Pen Turning | Blue-Green Poly Resin blank Luxor Push Button Click Pen with Titanium Blue Hardware
Hey folks, after a little while away, I’m back! In today’s video, I turn a Luxor push button click pen with a blue-green poly resin blank and titanium blue hardware. This one took a good while to turn, much longer than I anticipated. Luckily, it sanded up and polished real nice. I’m not generally a fan of the titanium blue hardware but I think it pairs well with this blank. What do you think?

Crochet Needle Kit | Caribbean Rosewood Crochet Needle Handle
In today’s video, I turn a handle for a crochet needle set. Turning this was very similar to a pen. I went off some pictures on the internet and suggestions from people to come up with a design. The Caribbean Rosewood is quite soft, making it a delicate turning. Even sanding was a bit tricky, being careful not to leave any marks.

October 14, 2023
I was working away at a few things today.

I put the first coat of wipe-on poly on the bookshelf. Finished turning a bowl. Made a handle for the crochet kit and filmed it for Monday’s video.
Once these things are wrapped up, I’ve got a few more things to get started on, like yarn bowls, some resin projects, and getting some pens turned before the holidays.
It feels good to feel like I’m making progress.

Pen Turning | Redheart with Titanium Gold Hardware Slimline Pen
In today’s video, I turn a slimline ballpoint pen using Redheart wood and titanium gold hardware. This is my first time turning Redheart and I quite enjoyed it. It felt softer, requiring a gentler touch. The colour of the wood is just stunning. For this pen, I opted for a friction finish, Shellewax, instead of a CA finish, because I wanted to preserve the feeling of this wood when holding the pen.
