  • May 31, 2026: Linger

Prompt: Write about something you want to linger in.

The prompt for today is: Write about something you want to linger in.

I think what I want to linger in is this place I’m in right now — this space of calm.

It feels like I’ve been given time to come to a better understanding of where I’m at.

The prompt for today, May 30th, 2026, is: write about what you want to keep.

This feels tied to what I’ve uncovered throughout this month and what I’d like to carry forward.

To be honest, I think it’s these audio journals.

  • May 29, 2026: Time

    Prompt: Write about time.

The prompt for today, May 29th, 2026, is to write about time.

Oh man. My relationship with time is tumultuous.

I have always been late — perpetually late. I remember showing up hours late to friends’ places or things we were supposed to do, or just not showing up at all because I’d decided to take a nap half an hour before I was supposed to leave.

  • May 28, 2026: A Place You Feel Calm

Prompt: Describe a place where you feel calm.

My workshop is probably that place.

Every time Hannah walks into that place, she says it’s my mind on display. It’s where I go and where I can be free, where all my ideas can find some sort of place to exist.

Not everything comes to fruition, of course, but there’s a space for everything in there. My mind is free to roam, my hands are free to work and tinker, and I always feel really good after I’ve been there.

    This is a good one.

  • May 26, 2026: Evening

    Prompt: Write about your evening.

The prompt for today, May 26, 2026, is write about your evening.

My evenings have changed, of course, recently.

Come to think of it, I remember very little about what my evenings looked like before Emi. I imagine they were mostly spent sitting here in the office, working on whatever project had my attention at the time, or watching TV. Some evenings I’d go to the shop, and I always enjoyed that.

May 25, 2026 — Something That Takes Time

Alright, the prompt for today, May 25th, 2026, is: write about something that takes time.

    Oh boy.

Yep. Lots of things take time.

Healing takes time. My wrist is taking far too long to heal. I understand that it needs to heal properly, and that takes time, but boy am I becoming incredibly impatient about it.

  • May 24, 2026: Ordinary Beauty

    Prompt: Write about ordinary beauty.

The prompt for today, May 24th, 2026, is to write about ordinary beauty.

I think it was in The Brothers Karamazov where the father — I’m forgetting his name now — said something about there being something beautiful in every woman. He was a womanizer, and his motives weren’t entirely pure, but I think the idea can be extended.

  • May 23, 2026: What You’re Growing

    Prompt: Write about something growing.

The prompt for today, May 23rd, 2026, is write about something growing.

I think this is at the crux of all that I’ve been contemplating — my, I don’t know if it’s an existential crisis or a crisis of existence. I guess that’d be one and the same. But this seems to be at the heart of it.

  • May 22, 2026: Water

    Prompt: Write about water.

The prompt for today, May 22nd, 2026, is: write about water.

When I’m thinking about this — and this is going to sound strange, because it sounds strange even as I’m thinking about it — I think my relationship with water has changed lately. If for no other reason, I can’t really get my right hand wet for fear that I’ll ruin my cast. So everything’s being done with my left hand. Even washing my hands has been… well, that’s been an issue.

  • May 20, 2026: Returning

    Prompt: Write about returning.

The prompt for today, May 20th, 2026, is write about returning.

I think the one place I keep coming back to — and I guess, in some ways, I always have — is my office in the house. Well, it’s one room of the house, and I call it my office, but… well, I use it mostly.

Any time I feel like I need a reset, I come there. Or I come here. I’m in here right now.

I think even growing up, one of the things I’ve learned about myself is that I need a desk. There was one year of my life where I didn’t have a desk in the house, and that was difficult — using the kitchen table and not having a central space that was mine to go to, to sort of sit down at and, you know, just let my mind run free. That was very difficult.

Yeah, so I think the one place I always come back to is my office, where there’s the desk and my things. And, you know, even with my workshop, I feel like that’s an extension of this office.

Yeah. It’s a good place for me.

    I guess that’s it, really.

    Here comes the ad.
