At some time last year, before Emi was born, likely in the summer, I acquired a beaded bracelet from one of Hannah’s sisters. I believe that the bracelet wasn’t meant for me but it was laying around so I put it on. I haven’t taken it off since. The beads are a marbled shade of pink and the charm is two little feet.

Emi has been in this world with us for a month. Unbelievable. It’s hard to recall all that has happened since the day she was born, not least because of the lack of consistent and rejuvenating sleep.

I caught a glimpse of myself in the mirror this evening…dad mode has been activated.

This picture was taken after she had just thrown up all over me and we both needed to change.

My parents have come to visit. Well, to spend time with Emi. It is one of the most heartwarming things I have ever witnessed to see my parents hold her. Of course, I have no idea what they looked like when they first held me or my sister, but watching them hold their first grandchild fills me with a calming joy.

I can’t recall my parents ever having a cup of coffee at home until I was an adult. Being the contrarian youth that I was, I drank coffee. Come to think of it, it wasn’t until my first year at university that I really drank coffee. Every so often, I’d get a premade Frappuccino in a glass bottle from Starbucks, but never a hot coffee. Today, we set things up at Aro Market. That’s really about it. After that, we grabbed some lunch, picked up some cat food, and then came home. I tinkered with some 3D printing – I’ve been trying to make some SANA Stationery & Gifts “coins.”
I can’t think of much else to write tonight so I’ll use a writing prompt.

A “hard launch,” I’m told, is when you post a picture of you and your partner on Instagram after having kept it a secret. A “soft launch” is when you post a picture of you and your partner on Instagram at the end of a gallery of related photos after having kept it a secret. Hannah posted a picture of us on her Instagram Stories today while we were waiting to board at the airport.

Chai – tea – is a staple in my parents’ household. I remember my mom drinking tea out of a bowl because she was running late. If she’d left it in the mug, it’d be too hot. Every morning, the first thing my dad does is turn on the kettle. At every social event, there’s tea. Coffee isn’t so much a thing.
