Prompt: Write about a time you questioned yourself.

Okay, the prompt for today, July 8th, 2026, is: write about a time you questioned yourself.

I guess you could pick any number of them.

I think doubt is one of the more pervasive sentiments I have toward my endeavors. Really, with almost everything.

Even this audio journal. I doubt so much when it comes to promoting it. I’m reluctant to promote it because I doubt that it’s interesting enough, or I doubt that people want to read it, or I doubt that the quality is good enough.

With my woodworking, I constantly underprice things because I can see the flaws. I don’t want to suffer the ramifications of somebody discovering them and later deciding that the money they spent wasn’t worth it. So if I price it lower, then maybe they can let that go.

With my writing, I doubt how succinct it is. I wonder how often I use the word I. Am I actually saying anything meaningful?

With almost all things, I feel doubt. I question my legitimacy within the realm, if we can call it that. How much do I actually belong here, or there, or anywhere?

And that’s problematic.

Part of why I’m working through these prompts, I think, is to address that within myself and to start thinking about how I can turn that doubt into confidence. Or maybe not even turn it into confidence, but develop confidence despite the doubt.

I have to say, I started promoting this audio journal a little bit, and then I began questioning it, so I stopped.

With the woodworking, I haven’t really been doing that much lately, so I haven’t had much to post. But I was working on those pen rests, and I’m at the last stage. I just need to photograph them and list them.

I’ve been delaying that for weeks because I doubt that anybody’s going to like them or want to buy them.

But the only way to find out is to actually photograph them and list them.

So I guess I’m trapped in this cycle where I want to pursue something and I want to meet with success, but I don’t want to face failure.

A lot of the time, when I put things out, they fail. And that’s to be expected, because that’s what happens to a lot of things.

I need to learn how to turn that failure into success by assessing it, understanding it, critiquing it, and then refining or redeveloping the process to make things better.

Yeah, there’s a lot of doubt.

I sit with it all the time, and I’m hoping I can grow from that.

But that’s where we are now, and that’s where I’ve been for a while.

We’ll see where things end up.

But there’s no doubt that the future is coming.

Of course, I’d love to hear your thoughts on this or any of the other prompts, so please do leave a comment or a link to your blog or audio journal, or whatever it happens to be, and I’ll be sure to check it out.

All right, folks. I’ll talk to you tomorrow.
