Prompt: Write about finding your voice.

All right, the prompt for today, June 18, 2026, is write about finding your voice.

This is an interesting one, especially when you think about it in terms of craft.

I think that, in many ways, we can recognize people’s work because of how they’ve established themselves and imbued their work with their signature or their voice.

For me specifically, I’m still in search of that when it comes to SANA Stationery & Gifts, woodworking, and the maker side of my life.

I think I used to have a more distinct voice in my writing, but that’s changed a lot since I slowed down on the writing. One thing I am trying to do now, oddly enough, even though I’m doing this audio journal, is to regain—or maybe re-hear, re-find, or re-establish—that voice in my writing.

As for my work with SANA Stationery & Gifts, woodworking, and crafting, I’m still working toward it.

Interestingly, I think one of the big problems I have is that I try to jump to that stage too quickly. What I should probably be doing instead is copying people’s work, using formulas, and following plans that have already been established and proven to work. Then, through the learning that comes from that process, making the small changes that eventually distinguish the work as my own.

I think there’s something to be said for that mimicry.

I’m thinking about how birds learn to fly by watching their parents fly, and eventually they fly on their own.

I can bring it even closer to home. Our daughter is going to learn how to do things by watching and copying us and the people around her. As she’s introduced to more people and more experiences, she’ll begin emulating them too. Then, as she pieces those influences together, her own voice will start to emerge. Her style. Her distinct way of moving through the world.

I suppose craft works the same way.

By trying things that others have already done, by following their lead, you slowly morph and change and gradually come into your own.

So I don’t know.

I guess I’m left wondering where I currently am in that journey of finding my voice.

I don’t know.

And I don’t know that I’ve ever really known.

But I feel like I had something before that I don’t have now, and I don’t know why that is.

I’m very confused about this one.

In any case, you can find this prompt and more at Letters’ Lounge, www.letterslounge.com.

I’d love to hear your comments and thoughts. Please share your voice. Leave a comment, or a link to your blog, audio journal, or whatever it happens to be.

I’ll talk to you tomorrow, folks.
