Prompt: Write about what you resist practicing.
The prompt for today, June 15, 2026, is: Write about what you resist practicing.
I think what comes to mind is putting my work out there. This is very similar to yesterday’s reflection. I get to a certain point in a project and then, when it’s time to share it and get a real response from somebody other than me—or Hannah, to be honest, because she’s very supportive—I often stop. I resist going further.
I think that has a lot to do with confidence and self-belief. The challenge is that confidence only comes from pushing past that resistance and actually putting your work out there. The only way to develop that confidence is to continue forward.
Actually, on that note, today I’ve started a project to help me overcome some of this resistance and friction that I feel around making, crafting, and ultimately the business side of things. I’ve decided to make desk accessories out of clay using a few simple ground rules.
There is a time limit of 90 minutes. The piece must be made from clay. It also needs to contain either four dowels, a polished rock, or artificial sea glass.
The important part is that it doesn’t matter what the quality of the work is. It has to be listed for sale afterward—whether that’s on Shopify, Etsy, Amazon Handmade, or somewhere else.
By lowering the stakes and giving myself very defined criteria, I’m hoping to shift my focus away from the outcome and toward the process. The criteria aren’t about quality; they’re about completion. If I meet those criteria, then I’ve succeeded and the project can move forward.
The idea is to remove some of the judgment and self-criticism from the process of getting my work out into the world.
We’ll see how it goes. I have no idea what it’s going to look like, but that’s part of the fun, I guess. I just hope I don’t resist the video editing and all that other stuff that comes afterward.
Nothing’s perfect. But a little bit of progress each time is enough.
