Prompt: Write about time.
The prompt for today, May 29th, 2026, is to write about time.
Oh man. My relationship with time is tumultuous.
I have always been late — perpetually late. I remember showing up hours late to friends’ places or things we were supposed to do, or just not showing up at all because I’d decided to take a nap half an hour before I was supposed to leave.
Work? Jeez. I definitely got let go from a few jobs because I wasn’t showing up on time.
When I became a teacher, though, I did start showing up on time to work. I think I was late once, and that was because of a terrible snowstorm and traffic and all of that. Outside of that, I don’t think I’ve ever been late for the job, which is kind of interesting.
And now my days at school are run by bells and schedules. Everything is so tight.
Outside of school, though, I’m still not a very timely person. I’m not nearly as bad as I once was, but I’m certainly not great.
The other problem I have with time is judging how long things will take to do.
If I set out to do a project, I’m very bad at determining how long it’ll take. It’ll usually take at least seven times as long as I think. And even knowing that, I still won’t factor it in.
But that’s just how things go, I guess.
Anyway, I think I’ll leave it there for today. This is going to be a short one to save some time.
