Today’s prompt: Write about something you remember clearly that others recall differently.
Isn’t this what’s at the heart of so many misunderstandings? I suppose, it’s the parts of an experience that we remember are different, even if the overall experience was the same. Or, is it that we remember all of the same parts but our perspective of them is different?
So much of my past fits into this category. I assume that’s because I was the one living it while everybody else was watching it. Often, however, I find that the things I remember, such as something I said, was forgotten or unheard. It’s those overlooked moments, including the ones I didn’t see, that lead me to believe something untrue to the other person.
Why is it that their truth is paramount to mine, I wonder. Likely, I’m the one looking for an understanding to resolve something I’ve left open.
