Today’s prompt: What has your attention right now — and what might need more (or less) of it?
This is the one question I’m constantly struggling to answer. More precisely, the question is closer to, “What can I do so that I can get X, Y, and Z done together?” It’s this nagging sensation that aims to align disparate interests.
Even within any one interest, I can’t stay focussed on one idea or direction. Take 3D printing as an example. On any given day, I’ll be working in a different direction. There was the cardboard construction tools, then the page holders, and now I’m working in high-contrast images for babies. None of the ideas has reached its end; there’s more work to be done with each of them.
My attention is guided by my sense of priority. My sense of priority is dependent on my whimsy.
One thing I really want to start working on doing is doing less. Not taking on every project that comes to mind. Not building ideas so big that they topple before they’re standing. Zeroing my attention on what will be most fruitful.
I heard something interesting on a podcast today about how the people who are happiest are the ones who are focussed on something else. There’s something in that.
